The Symptoms Of Pregnancy During Different Trimesters

Symptoms of pregnancy can show as early as after one week of conception. Some women hardly feel any discomfort throughout their pregnancy while others have a difficult pregnancy. During pregnancy, your body goes through many changes and hence you may notice different pregnancy symptoms during the three trimesters.

Symptoms Of Pregnancy During First Trimester

  • Missed period is usually the first sign of pregnancy. If you have missed your periods then you should use a pregnancy kit to confirm your pregnancy. If the pregnancy test is positive, you should visit your gynecologist.
  • Spotting occurs when the embryo implants itself in the uterus. This spotting is usually light, and you may not even notice it. It can occur after 1 to 2 weeks after the conception.
  • During first few months of pregnancy, you may experience nausea. This is due to changes in hormones in the body.
  • Breasts get tender during pregnancy. The nipples also get very sensitive. This is due to the rush of the hormones, estrogen, and progesterone.
  • During first trimester, you may get easily tired. Since your body needs rest, you should take small naps during daytime to maintain your energy levels.
  • Some women get very sensitive to different aromas. You may also feel nausea with certain smells.

Symptoms Of Pregnancy During Second Trimester

During second trimester, some symptoms of first trimester disappear or their intensity becomes low. For e.g. you may not experience morning sickness in the second trimester.

  • Due to retention of water in the body, you may have bloating and heaviness during your second trimester.
  • The breast size starts increasing from second trimester onwards. This is because your body is preparing for breast feeding. The areola also becomes darker.
  • The size of the baby becomes big so you may have to adjust the way you sit and stand, which may cause backache.
  • As the pregnancy advances, you may develop swelling on your feet or ankles. This is because the lower part of the body has to handle more pressure due to increase in body weight.
  • You may notice the skin darkening at some places like armpits, inner thighs, and face. This is usually due to the changes in hormones.

Symptoms Of Pregnancy During Third Trimester

  • You may notice puffiness of eyes due to fluid retention.
  • As your fetus grows, it puts greater pressure on your bladder; you may feel the urge to empty your bladder frequently.
  • Your body expands to accommodate the growing fetus so you may develop stretch marks. You should use different kinds of moisturizers or skin creams for stretch marks. This will lighten them and also reduce the associated itchiness.
  • You may experience heartburn. This happens because when the fetus becomes big, it exerts pressure on stomach and the acids from your stomach may enter the esophagus.
  • There will be vaginal discharge during the last few days of the pregnancy.

However, the pregnancy symptoms vary from women to women and you may not experience, all of the above.
